How did we Reimagine Camp for 2020?

  • 2020 brought the pandemic and with it some changes that we will maintain, some we hope we don’t have to
  • Overload and Excel had to select and package crafts by age group and by day, well in advance of camp
  • All our girl-adult planning was done virtually
  • We took down goddesscamp.org for protection and put up the virtual passports and meeting links on a private web page
  • Our morning flag-up and flag-down ceremonies and announcements were held using Zoom – and staff and aides who didn’t have to rush off to other duties hung around to banter
  • We missed the song of the day.
  • We manned a parents’ help desk from 8-4 every day (except Friday afternoon) – not too many issues reported
  • Our units met in G-Suite Google Meets in the morning – supervised by our Air Traffic Controllers
  • In the afternoons we had several channels that campers could opt into; the Center for Applied Technology, the SpheroDome, the Cave of Code, the Crafts Buffer, the Lanyard Lair and the Aide Development Channel
  • We really sweated network bandwidth but it worked out fine.
  • Many campers have already expressed excitement at coming back next year!

the Closed caption unit

Netflix started our initiative on Deaf/Hard of Hearing awareness. She filmed several videos, including Signs of the Day that we showed at Flag Up and the Girl Scout Promise – we put some activities in our passport and with her aide Orion visited units to share their knowledge and teach girls how to sign their name

aide development

One of our new staff members, SEO led an aide development channel – with interactive sessions on networking, careers, gold/silver, internships and scholarships
